A festive atmosphere at the Olympic Stadium in London

After hosting the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox in 2019, London’s Olympic Stadium will host two major league baseball games this weekend between National League Central Division rivals St. Louis and the Chicago Cubs.

Home to the West Ham football team, which plays in the Premier League, this stadium has been completely redecorated for the occasion.

To bring the dimensions of this field in line with those of major league baseball, officials turned to Manfred Circuit field consultant Murray Cook. He is also the mastermind behind the project to build a stadium in the cornfields of the popular film Field of Dreams, which featured two major games in 2021 and 2022.

Converting a rectangular field into a baseball field was not an easy task.

“The fields just don’t fit in because the right field fence or the left field fence is 240 feet from the line. “It doesn’t work for baseball, maybe for a friendly, but not for a regular season game,” Murray Cook said in an interview with MLB.com on Saturday.

personalities present

There were several personalities from the world of baseball and also from the world of cinema.

Among them was famed actor and longtime Chicago Cubs fan Bill Murray, who arrived to cheer on his team.

Additionally, legendary New York Yankees player Derek Jeter made his FOX Sports analyst debut on Saturday.

gastronomy

Gastronomy lovers can feast at the weekend. The organizers of the event made sure to give the British a typically American atmosphere by selling all kinds of food in the concessions.

On the menu: giant hot dogs and giant nachos plates. These two dishes are 60 cm long and contain 2500 calories.

The chefs wanted to create a menu that combines the local specialties of the two cities.

These include the famous donut burger, a culinary specialty of the city of St. Louis.

Major League Baseball returns to the British capital next year with the New York Mets and Philadelphia Phillies.
