Big Pokey died on June 18 in Beaumont, Texas after collapsing on a bar stage. He was due to appear as a special guest at a Juneteenth celebration at Pour09 Bar & Rooftop.

On the same day he performed in Baytown, Texas in front of fans.

Since then there has been a flood of support for the legendary member of The Screwed Up Click.

At 6:00 p.m. on the grounds of Houston City Hall at 901 Bagby St. there will be a community celebration honoring the life of Big Pokey, whose real name is Milton Powell.

“Thank you all for your patience during this difficult time. Due to the overwhelming response, Big Pokey’s family has partnered with the City of Houston to host today’s event,” the event said in an email.

Representatives from the Big Pokey team tell ABC13 that the event is family-friendly and there is no entry fee.

The family says there will be food trucks and a presentation that will honor the life of one of the most influential members of the Houston rap community.
