To cool off from the recent high temperatures, Caguas will host the Barquilla and El Mantecado Festival on Sunday July 9th at the William Miranda Marín Botanical and Cultural Garden.
The first edition of this event, which starts at 10 a.m., goes back to the initiative of businessman Ricardo “Ricky” Román, who after years of hard work with his father Carmelo Román, who founded the Puerto Rico company Borinquen Cones in 1984, dedicated himself to manufacturing of Country Sweet cones and mixes for shortbreads with Grade A products and to distribute North Star and Hilland Roberts shortbreads and exclusive distribution of I-rice toppings. The company has everything needed to run a shortbread business. As a specialty they have all kinds of waffles, large, medium and Tulipa, a soft and sweet waffle.
To direct this festival, Ricky Román spoke to his friend Wilfred Caraballo, who hosted the Porsche Festival in the same place, to help him with his idea. Alfonso Sanabria from Sanabria Events has joined this alliance. Román stressed that his concern stems from the fact that many people think the gondolas are made in another country.
“It will be a healthy environment for the whole family,” emphasized Ricky Román, stressing that they count on the support of the Autonomous Community of Caguas for security logistics and internal transport.
The Barquilla and El Mantecado Festival will be enlivened by the group Rumba Caliente, Las Menuda’s “Tributo a Menudo” and the animation by the presenter and actress Ackerly Cedeño from “Pégate al Mediodía” (Wapa TV).
Attendees can enjoy the delicious $1.00 vanilla and chocolate wafers and purchase them on properly labeled buses. For just $7.00 you can access the facilities at the William Miranda Marín Botanical and Cultural Garden in Caguas; Children under the age of 12 do not pay.
Children will enjoy inflatable machines, a bouncy castle, clowns, children’s figures and magic shows. For the older ones there are artisans and kiosks. Photo Booth 360 is open to the public!
