AEW Referee Aubrey Edwards had the opportunity to contest a mixed match during the June 16 Rampage show. A match she won with Mark Briscoe and Papa Briscoe against Jeff Jarrett, Jay Lethal and Karen Jarrett.
This week, Edwards did an interview for Battle And Eli On The Battleground, and she said it was her first and last match:
“I’ve been in ballet for 22 years and never learned how to do a headlock takeover. That doesn’t add up. It’s also physical, but far from entertainment. It depends on how you can play with it and enjoy it. It was really cool to have the chance to do that. I had a chance to make Karen suffer during a promo. I had a live promo on Rampage that was crazy. It ended in a match that was good. It was very cool. It was really cool how it was organized. I used the Figure Four because it was Jay Lethal’s version. So there’s something of a long-term follow-up story that fans appreciate because they’re in the moment. I’m glad it’s over. I’m retiring undefeated. Not being able to walk without pain for two days… I never want to experience that again.”
Aubrey Edwards also explains that she chose the project because it’s a long-term storyline to the end of the Figure Four game. A story that began in January 2023 when Jarrett and Lethal believed they had won the AEW Tag Team Titles and she stepped in to overturn the decision.
However, in wrestling you should never say never. Today we know that Aubrey Edwards is capable of wrestling while also being a full-time referee.
