Poor air quality: Montreal still in smoke, still most polluted

For the second day in a row, Greater Montreal is shrouded in smoke. Even as the fine particles in the air gradually dissipate, metropolitan Quebec remains at the top of the world’s most polluted cities.

Around 7am Monday, the IQAir website listed the air quality index as 163 particles per meter3, by far the most polluting of any urban center in the world. Johannesburg, South Africa, for example, followed with a total of 131.

On Sunday afternoon, the city closed certain outdoor facilities, such as B. Outdoor sports facilities and the cancellation of their outdoor cultural activities until noon. The city’s golf club also ceased operations while golfers lingered on the greens.

Smoke from the wildfires is now spreading to several regions of Quebec, but rain forecast for many of those areas will help calm the climate.

In Laval, the bus fare was reduced to $1 to reduce car traffic and allow citizens easier transportation.
