Longueuil: A man dies in a suspicious fire

The police of the Longueuil agglomeration are investigating a suspicious fire that killed one person in a residential building in the LeMoyne sector during the night from Sunday to Monday.

A man in his 30s was found unconscious at the scene and taken to a hospital in critical condition, SPAL spokesman François Boucher said. The victim’s death was confirmed to TVA Nouvelles shortly afterwards.

According to the Longueuil Fire Department, the fire broke out around 12:20 p.m. in a four-unit building on Saint-Louis Street, near Victoria Avenue.

The firefighters dispatched to the site quickly brought the fire under control, which fortunately did not spread to the entire building.

Six people were evacuated and treated by the Canadian Red Cross, but a man who had suffered cardiac arrest was evacuated to hospital in critical condition.

The damage does not appear to be significant and the structure of the building remained intact despite the intensity of the fire, sources said.
