Nightmarish summer at the top of the bridges

Motorists will need to be patient to take either of the two river crossings in the Quebec region. The Quebec Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility will be doing major work there for most of the summer.

The slip roads from the Henri-IV freeway to Boulevard Champlain and from Boulevard Champlain to the southbound freeway Henri-IV will be closed from June 27 to August 10 inclusive.

According to the MTQ, these barriers will come into effect during the holiday when a culvert is being rebuilt on Boulevard Champlain.

“This intervention is planned as part of the project to rehabilitate the junctions north of the Pierre-Laporte and Quebec bridges,” explains spokeswoman Émilie Lord in a press release.

Long detour

These major obstacles will force users to make numerous detours to move around the sector, especially for those who want to get to Champlain Boulevard from the Henri-IV motorway.

According to the route proposed by the MTQ, they must cross the Pierre-Laporte bridge and turn around five kilometers further in Lévis onto the Route des Rivières. To get to the exit to the boulevard, you have to take the car shuttle again.

The Department of Transport is therefore asking motorists to “choose an alternative route for their journeys” in order to avoid work zones.
