Toronto rapper accused of murder releases prison music video

Despite being jailed for murder, a Toronto rapper reportedly managed to produce and release a music video in which he is seen dancing and singing from his cell in his orange prison jumpsuit.

“I was 18 when I bought a gun, 22 when I shot your son,” we can hear Hassan Ali rap to the camera under the stage name “Top5” from his cell in the Milton, Ontario jail, according to the Toronto Sun on Thursday.

The 23-year-old rapper, who has been jailed since February 2022 for the murder of Hashim Omar Hashi, 20, would have shared a sneak peek of his latest music video on Twitter on Thursday, thanks to a relative, in which we can see him filming his orange prison uniform.

“I’ve been writing for years about the antics of Top5, the Toronto rapper who is currently awaiting trial for murder. […] “This is Canada’s justice system adapted to music videos,” the Twitter post said.

However, authorities have not yet been able to explain how the prisoner managed to get hold of a mobile phone and keep it long enough to film himself.

โ€œThe department is aware of an unacceptable incident related to video posted online which appears to contain footage of secure areas of Maplehurst Correctional Complex. Unauthorized photography of any kind is strictly prohibited in provincial correctional facilities,” Department spokesman Hunter Kell told the National Post on Monday.

The rapper was initially charged with subsequent aiding and abetting murder in 2021 before being extradited from the United States in 2022 and formally charged with first-degree murder.
