Kevin Costner’s plans to help his estranged wife, Christine Baumgartner, with the divorce papers reportedly didn’t go as planned.
The famous actor was shocked when his wife handed him legal documents certifying the end of their decades-long marriage as he wanted to start the process. The move dashed any notions of an amicable separation, as the former couple were embroiled in a dramatic and very public feud over a number of issues, including Baumgartner’s refusal to leave the house they lived in during their marriage.
The Golden Globe winner and his former bride walked the aisle in 2004 and are parents to three children – Cayden Wyatt, Hayes Logan and Grace Avery. Both parties have filed for sole custody of the children, who are now teenagers.

Following Costner’s claim that Baumgartner left him “homeless” by refusing to leave her home in California and charging his credit card $95,000 in the wake of their controversial breakup, The US Sun has more communicated details.

According to an outlet source, the handbag designer “surprised” the “Yellowstone” star when she presented him with the divorce papers. In the words of the insider:
“Kevin sat down with his family, told them that he and her mother were getting a divorce and that his attorney was doing the paperwork. Wanting everything to be peaceful for the sake of his children, he told Christine he didn’t want a messy divorce because he’d already been through one.

His wish didn’t go through, however, as the creator of Cat Bag Couture “sneaky assaulted him and served him her own divorce papers” the morning after they spoke. “Kevin was so shocked,” the source added, claiming, “Christine has made him look awful ever since and continues to do so.”
That claim appears to be the opposite of what a longtime pal told the media last month that Costner was “stunned by Christine’s actions.” At the time, The Blast mentioned that a close friend of the ‘Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves’ star said:
“Kevin was very surprised by Christine’s behavior, he obviously doesn’t want the divorce and he would take it back. It’s disappointing; he loves her and his children.”
The news of the split came as a shock even to viewers, as Costner and Baumgartner fell in love during the Academy Awards in March. The estranged couple also reportedly didn’t have any serious issues that would cause their marriage to break up, as this insider explained:

Last week, The Blast reported that new papers filed by Baumgartner indicated the 49-year-old was unhappy with the way her estranged boyfriend told her children about the divorce. As it turned out, Costner broke the news to the teens during a 10-minute Zoom call on set in Las Vegas, and she wasn’t in the room.
The father-of-seven’s action was frustrating and disappointing for the loving mother, who was hoping she and the SAG Awards winner could share the update personally and together. In the legal documents, she also claimed she had expressed concerns her children could find out about the split from an outsider and the acclaimed filmmaker.
Regrettably, Costner dismissed Baumgartner’s concerns, reportedly insisting that “he had the right to tell them ‘first’ we were getting a divorce and to tell them privately,” with or without his ex-partner’s presence and permission. Baumgartner addressed the issue, writing in the documents:
“The children’s well-being was always my top priority and I was afraid they would find out about the divorce before Kevin could tell them. For me it was important that we tell the children personally and together.”
