Iranian Foreign Ministry confirms failure of Washington sanctions

Nasser Kanaani, spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

TEHRAN, June 27 (RHC) – Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said Tuesday that the atmosphere between that country and Saudi Arabia is good while unilateral US sanctions against his country have failed.

Kanaani told a news conference that Iran’s relations with Saudi Arabia are normal thanks to the political will of leaders of both parties and that legal frameworks to improve economic and trade ties have already been worked out.

The official also stressed that both nations played important roles in creating security in the region and reiterated with his country the pre-eminence of the Gulf Arab States.

On the subject of Yemen, the diplomat expressed his government’s respect for the decisions of the Yemenis themselves and stressed his support for political talks and the ceasefire.

Regarding Washington’s unilateral sanctions against the Islamic Republic, the official pointed out that these had failed and, in practice, did not produce the results they desired.

Likewise, Canaani saw a change in behavior by the United States as a prelude to a positive attitude toward them. (Source:PL)
