Madonna has postponed her Celebration tour after spending several days in intensive care with a “severe bacterial infection,” her manager Guy Oseary said in an Instagram post.
The 64-year-old singer would kick off her new tour – which she had promised since the start of her career 40 years ago through her latest album – in North America and Europe on July 15 in Vancouver, Canada.
“His health is improving and he is expected to make a full recovery,” Oseary wrote on Instagram on Wednesday.
The Celebration tour is planned in Detroit, Chicago, New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Denver, Atlanta and Boston, among others. The first part would end in Las Vegas on October 7th. Oseary said details of how the artist will frame his performances will be released soon.
What happened to Madonna?
The details of Madonna’s bacterial infection were not available as of Wednesday afternoon, but it is known that about 23,000 Americans die from this type of disease each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
According to a New York Post report, Madonna was rushed to a New York City hospital on Saturday after being found unconscious. Her eldest daughter, Lourdes, 26, has been by the singer’s side throughout her recovery.
