According to media reports, US intelligence services had documents showing the first signs that Prigozhin was attempting an insurgency against the Russian government.

(Sputnik) In an interview with CNN, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said he was not upset that the United States had withheld intelligence suggesting that Yevgeny Prigozhin and his Wagner Group forces were about to instigate a mutiny, but was frustrated that that the United States is too slow in supplying Ukraine with certain weapons.

“No, I just get frustrated with the US when decisions about supplying certain types of weapons to Ukraine are taking longer than I would like,” Kuleba said Tuesday.

According to media reports, US intelligence agencies had briefings showing early signs that Prigozhin was attempting an insurgency against the Russian government, but dismissed it from most allies, including Ukraine, for fear it might be intercepted by opponents. Ukraine itself had not received any assessment from its own intelligence services that a mutiny would occur, Kuleba said.

The Wagner Group paramilitary organization occupied a Russian army headquarters in the southern city of RostovonDon on Friday evening (23). Earlier, Prigozhin accused the Russian Defense Ministry of attacking the military group’s camps. The Russian Defense Ministry dismissed the charges, while the Russian Federal Security Service launched a criminal case against Prigozhin for organizing an armed uprising. Prigozhin said that Wagner Group forces were headed for the Russian capital, Moscow.

On Saturday (24th) Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko announced that, as agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he is involved in negotiations with Prigozhin and they reached an agreement to deescalate the situation. Prigozhin then said that the Wagner group would withdraw to their bases. According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the charges against Prigozhin would be dropped and he would be sent to Belarus.
