The Quebec government announced Wednesday afternoon a total investment of $440 million to rehabilitate the Vallée-Jonction-Thetford-Mines rail line by the end of fall 2025.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Sustainable Mobility Geneviève Guilbault, Lotbinière-Frontenac MNA Isabelle Lecours and Beauce-Nord MNA Luc Provençal invited the media to Tring-Jonction to proceed with this announcement.
The rehabilitation of the Quebec Central Railroad will cover a distance of 58 kilometers and will include the rebuilding of 17 rail bridges, the replacement of 102 culverts and the repair of 40 public level crossings.
It should be noted that last March, the Quebec government announced an amount of $106 million to accept public tenders this summer to purchase rails and carry out preparatory works, including the reconstruction of the aforementioned railway bridge start the river Chaudière at Vallée-Jonction.
According to a preliminary analysis, the completion of this project will permanently add $50 million to Quebec’s real gross domestic product (GDP). Construction will also have an economic impact on Quebec’s GDP of approximately $250 million and create 1,100 full-time jobs.
