The ruling party Vamos leads Guatemalan MPs to the Parlacen

Based on the preliminary results of last Sunday’s general election, this group achieved five positions in the regional body, ahead of the National Unity of Hope with four; and repeats itself as a majority force in the National Congress, where it garnered 39 out of 160 votes.

The surprise seed movement won three seats in the Parlacen, two Viva and Valor-Unionista, while all, VOS, Nosotros and URNG-Maíz Winaq got one per capita.

Giammattei and his vice-president Guillermo Castillo could also be there, according to the statutes that automatically leave the door open to these couples from each of the states of the region at the end of the term and until the next change of government.

Based in Guatemala, the Parlacen was founded on January 14, 1986 and is dedicated to uniting the nations of the region on economic, social and migratory issues. It is part of the Central American integration system.

Analysts warned that in past election campaigns, as in previous elections, it caused controversy “because parties and the population demand better results from their strategies.”

Parliament’s decisions are not binding and cost the state of this Central American territory nearly 13 million quetzals a year ($1.7 million), they claimed, among other claims.
