The proposal includes contributions from members of the National Committee for Electoral Debates, departments of the CNE and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), with the aim of creating a new dynamic that will ensure greater interaction between presidential candidates, the electoral body said.

The presidential candidates will meet on August 13 in a debate in which they will answer questions prepared by experts appointed by the CNE on issues such as the economy and security.

The discussion comes just a week before elections in which more than 13 million Ecuadorians are called to elect the president and vice-president, the 137 members of the National Assembly, and they must also respond to a referendum on oil production in the country Yasuní- area in the Amazon.

The election plan includes a possible run-off for October 15 and the swearing-in of the new president is scheduled for November.
