Cuba’s advances in sports and physical education are outstanding

Baku.- IN CUBA Sport is a constitutional right and physical education is compulsory up to university level, as they highlighted here during the VII International Conference on Physical Education and Sport (Minesps VII).

The Cuban representative at Minesps VII, Yohselyn Ramiro, also reminded the participants that the Caribbean state has implemented the “Community Physical Activity for Life” project for the benefit of all, with a focus on the most vulnerable segments.

Ramiro said the areas that will receive particular attention are children and young people, including those with special educational needs, women and the elderly.

“We have gained some international experience in vulnerable communities in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Panama, El Salvador and Timor-Leste, among others,” said the Cuban representative.

Regarding the adoption of an association document entitled “In Shape for Life” as a continuation of the eponymous initiative of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), Ramiro explained that this proposal has certain similarities with the Cuban project.

“Our country has no objection to Fit for Life and we offer our expertise in this area,” he added.

Cuba has more than 25 years of experience that has been updated and has allowed a small country blocked for more than 60 years to remain in the first places in the world at the Olympics.

Finally, the Cuban delegation clarified that the increasing economic and financial difficulties mean that the conditions for physical and sporting activities do not correspond to the wishes of the state and the needs of the citizens.

Nonetheless, teachers have created their own alternative media to teach the classroom and achieve satisfaction. They may block us, but the desire to innovate and see smiles on Cubans’ faces will never stop, he concluded.

The Cuban delegation, together with Yohselyn Ramiro Ruiz, Director of Training and Improvement at Inder, consists of the institution’s international relations specialist, Nallibys Martínez, and the Cuban Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Carlos Valdés.
