WhatsApp launches another beta version for Android, adding a long-awaited feature: the ability to send photos without loss of quality. Obviously the definition can remain the same without being reduced.

If you send photos to your loved ones via WhatsApp, they will be saved on their smartphone. Their quality is reduced so as not to overload everyone’s memory, which seems logical. However, some would like to send each other photos without loss of quality. Meta has been listening to these people and is actively working on an option to send photos on WhatsApp without loss.

It is the specialized and well-informed medium WABetaInfo that reports on the novelties brought by the latest update of the beta version of WhatsApp. It’s been awaited for two years: until now, all we knew was that the feature was in development. Some beta testers see so-called “high quality” photos being sent. Photos sent using this feature will not be compressed or reduced in resolution.

A note will appear in the bubble of the message that contains the photo, indicating that the photo is “high quality”. We also learn that over the past few weeks, several users have noticed that this could all apply to videos as well. While previously affected users had no control over the videos, this has now happened.
How to Send Lossless Photos on WhatsApp
To send photos in the highest quality, just click “HD” in the photo editor. A window will appear where you can select “Standard Quality” or “HD Quality”. We can see each time what the definition and size of the file to be sent will be. Compression will still be applied to videos if the dimensions remain the same.

Also note: Standard quality mode is selected by default. So you have to change this setting every time you want to share a lossless photo. WABetaInfo clarifies that only certain beta testers are entitled to this feature, but that it will be rolled out more widely in the coming weeks while WhatsApp is still in beta.
