In the market for connected watches, only a few manufacturers still offer eSIM-compatible models with 4G connectivity, so you can use your Toquante even without a smartphone.

This is currently the case with Apple, Google or Samsung, but the list more or less ends there, at least so far. In fact, as spotted on the XiaomiUI site, Xiaomi would for its part be working on a 4G version of a connected watch. The website specializing in news from the Chinese manufacturer has indeed discovered two devices in an IMEI database, known under the model numbers M2311W1 and M2312W1. However, the nomenclature is reminiscent of previous Xiaomi watches, as the Xiaomi Watch S2 uses the number M2207W1 and the Xiaomi Watch S1 Pro uses the number M2135W1.

Therefore, for XiaomiUI, there is no doubt that M2311W1 and M2312W1 correspond to the brand’s next high-end connected watch, the Xiaomi Watch S2 Pro.

A SIM compatible watch

However, the most interesting thing about this bracket, according to the information collected by XiaomiUI, is the SIM support. In fact, it is said to be compatible with 4G networks, a first for Xiaomi, and thus allow it to be used even without its smartphone. Handy, for example, to share your position during sports training or even to answer the phone directly from the watch when you don’t have your phone nearby.

However, keep in mind that unlike Google or Samsung watches, Xiaomi models use their own operating system based on RTOS. They therefore do not allow the installation of third-party applications, as might be the case on Wear OS.

We can expect a presentation of the Xiaomi Watch S2 Pro in the coming months, probably at the same time as the manufacturer’s next folding smartphone, the Xiaomi Mix Fold 3. According to XiaomiUI, the launch in China is expected in the second half of 2023.
