Actor Alan Arkin has died at the age of 89

Actor Alan Arkin, best known for numerous roles including in the film Little Miss Sunshine, has died at his home at the age of 89, his sons have confirmed to People magazine.

“Our father was a uniquely talented force of nature, both as an artist and as a man. As a loving husband, father, great and great grandfather, he was adored and we will miss him dearly,” their children Adam, Matthew and Anthony said in a statement to the family.

The cause of death was not disclosed.

Alan Arkin played the role of Edwin Hoover’s grandfather in the 2006 film Little Miss Sunshine. His role, which only lasted 14 minutes on screen, earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.

He then multiplied his roles in recent years, including in the 2012 film Argo, directed by Ben Affleck, which earned him his fourth Oscar nomination.

Most recently, he starred opposite Michael Douglas in The Kominsky Method for Netflix and received Emmy Award nominations in 2019 and 2020, as well as Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations in 2020 and 2021.

His son Adam Arkin, 66, is also a well-known actor and director, having starred in hit TV shows like Chicago Hope, 8 Simple Rules and Sons of Anarchy.
