A couple who recently moved to the southern state of Louisiana were woken up in the middle of the night after an uninvited alligator broke into their home through a dog door.
Don and Jan Schultz were woken up after their seven-year-old dog, Panda, started growling at the menacing five-foot-tall reptile.
Don got up to find out what was worrying the pet when he saw what appeared to be one of the most famous residents in the state in the darkness.
The couple kept their cool and quickly called emergency services to deal with the unwanted lodger.

“It was quite an experience. “We’re getting the full Cajun experience,” said Don, who recently relocated to the state from Yuma, Arizona.
“Our dog panda growled and woke my wife, she nudged me and said, ‘I think there’s someone in the house.’ “I got up and saw the shape of an alligator,” explained Don KATC.

The alligator did not move quietly and could be seen thrashing about as a noose was placed around its snout before being dragged from the couple’s home.

“We are very grateful to the Sheriffs and Fish & Wildlife. “We’ve thoroughly expelled the creature from our home and I’m guessing it’s swimming in the bayou somewhere,” said Jan.
The Schultz’s have now changed the style of the dog door in their home so that it opens only for their own pet and not for any creature just looking for a shelter for the night.
“We take precautions and lock the dog door, which can now only be opened with the dog’s collar.” “We don’t want to experience such a surprise again in the future.”
