The luminous trail of Light is Life – the A2A light festival that has put the cultural capital of Brescia and Bergamo in the spotlight – now lands on the shores of Lake Iseo to illuminate Montisola. From July 8th to 23rd, Europe’s largest lake island will be the focal point of a site-specific installation by Michelangelo Pistoletto and some of Angelo Bonello’s iconic works, already exhibited at Light is Life last February, will shine again.

The installation
The master and visionary Pistoletto will (re)propose the philosophy of his “Third Energy Paradise”. Restating the mathematical sign of infinity, conceived as “the third phase of humanity, realized in the balanced union between artistry and nature”. In particular the installation in Le Ere, It will be composed of 16 stacks of nets, as many as the municipalities of Iseo, crossed and connected by an LED outline, precisely delineating the reinterpretation of the mathematical sign of infinity. The net is one of the symbols of the island, a symbol of the local handicraft tradition (fishing nets but also sports nets on football goals), but here they become the metaphor for the link that binds the destiny of the individual with that of society as a whole. The work is made from recycled materials, the nets made on the island and the abandoned LED lights from the works of Light is Life, as a sign of infinite rebirth.

The presentation
The project was presented on Friday 30 June at the Meet Digital Cultural Center – Fondazione Cariplo in Milan, of which Maria Grazia Mattei is the President. The event was attended by the Mayors of Bergamo, Brescia and Montisola, Giorgio Gori, Laura Castelletti and Fiorello Turla, among others, along with A2A CEO Renato Mazzoncini and Artistic Director Angelo Bonello, while Pistoletto then intervened.
For the first citizens Gori and Castelletti it was an opportunity to formulate a first assessment of the first six months of the Capital of Culture, which will be officially announced on July 20th: “We exceeded expectations,” said Gori, “Bergamo turned out to be a lively city, attracting many tourists, mostly 65% foreigners.” new feeling developed and I hope that the capital has a long life and does not end in 2023.”
Michelangelo Pistoletto, the meaning of the “Third Paradise”
Returning to Pistoletto’s “Third Paradise,” Gori added, “Lake Iseo has always been an element of union and division between our provinces.” Montisola is a place with a rich history (from the Romans to the Republic of Venice) and an admirable beauty that was already celebrated a few years ago by the artist Christo with his installation “The Floating Piers”, the installation that connects the island with the mainland Association. Pistoletto’s work brings contemporary art back into these spaces that on paper belong to the province of Brescia but are a legacy for all who know and live Iseo.”
