“21,000 Wagner soldiers were killed by Ukrainian forces and more than 80,000 injured.” This is the assessment of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Mundo.
“Wagner,” he explained, “fall into two categories: professional mercenaries and those mobilized from prisons, their cannon fodder.” Our troops killed 21,000 and wounded 80,000. The good news is that we destroyed the most motivated part of the Russian armed forces.”
But new scenarios for the conflict with Moscow are opening up, according to the Washington Post, which, citing some sources, writes that CIA Director William Burns made a secret trip to Ukraine in early June during which Kiev officials revealed a strategy to him had to recapture the Russian-occupied territories and begin ceasefire talks with Moscow by the end of the year.
The trip would have taken place before the failed Wagner mutiny.
