The crash came a day after Musk boasted about record usage numbers on his platform
This comes after the platform endured turbulent times following Musk’s blockbuster $44 billion acquisition last year.
His bombastic style reportedly sparked concerns among some shareholders about his long-term future as head of the platform, leading to Musk stepping down as CEO in May and naming media executive Linda Yaccarino to the post.
The billionaire also revealed that the site faced unexpected issues on Friday amid record usage figures, prompting him to take “drastic and immediate” action.
Users were temporarily banned from accessing tweets without logging in due to “extreme data sanitization” performed by AI firms.
Musk reiterated his unpopular push to push authentication among users when he addressed the issue on Friday, tweeting, “Any social media companies that allow unauthenticated access will become bot-ridden hellscapes once they become relevant.”
