WASHINGTON, July 1 (Portal) – The United States Supreme Court’s blocking of student debt forgiveness, a setback for the Joe Biden administration, was one of the stories that dominated this news week.

This and another judgment in favor of a designer who opposes working with people of sexual diversity were the last two judgments of the highest conservative-leaning court before its break.

In its ruling on the debt, which is affecting some 43 million borrowers, the court concluded that the Biden administration “has exceeded its powers with the plan” and the freeze will end at the end of August, with the Debt payments are scheduled to begin in October.

Federal government data shows that more than 90 percent of African American and 72 percent of Latino students leave college with far more debt than white or Asian students.

Also making headlines this week was the court’s ruling to overturn affirmative action, declaring that race should not be a factor in college admissions.

Smoke from wildfires in Canada and its impact on the United States; The federal impeachments against former President Donald Trump and, despite this lead in the polls, among Republican nominees for the White House were other issues highlighted by the press. (Text and photo: PL)
