Jason Derulo addresses the trend of fans throwing phones and other objects at performers on stage

Jason Derulo is calling on artists to help stem the current trend of fans throwing objects like phones at them while they’re performing.

While presenting his new book, Sing Your Name Out Loud: 15 Rules for Living Your Dream, at a Barnes & Noble bookstore in New York City, Derulo seemed a bit puzzled as to why anyone would endanger an artist by throwing objects wanted with them.

“You weren’t aware of any of that,” Derulo told TMZ when asked about the recent incidents. “Everything you do is respect the artist.” That’s happened to me before.’

Derulo, 33, claims the increase in such incidents started when fans hoped their favorite artists would use the device to take a picture.

“It’s like a real thing.” “People throw away their phones,” he repeated, before demonstrating how he would dodge a flying device. “It’s like the Matrix; You have to dodge those phones. “It’s getting dangerous out here.”

Derulo provided an example of a safer way for fans to take a picture of their favorite stars.

“If the artist gets really close to you, you can try to pass the phone; I understand that,” he said. “But putting your joint on stage is insane.”

Initially, some cast members actually started taking photos, and eventually more and more phones and a mix of other potentially dangerous objects were thrown in their way.

The ‘Love Not War’ star believes artists can be part of the solution by not engaging with fans throwing objects at them on stage.

One such artist caught up in the dangerous trend was Bebe Rexha, who was hit in the face by a fan’s cell phone while she was singing a song in mid-June.

She fell to her knees in pain, got a black eye and had to go to the hospital for stitches.

Afterwards, Rexha, 33, took to her Instagram page and revealed: “I’m fine,” alongside a photo of her giving a thumbs-up with a striking black eye.

According to Today, a 27-year-old New Jersey man was arrested and has since been charged with assault.

In a statement posted to her Instagram page, the If You Go Down star said the bracelet hit her in the eye, but admitted she was more scared than hurt by the incident.

“We all have triggers and layers of fears that run much deeper than what is being shown and so I walked off stage to calm down and make sure I, the band, the crew and the audience all got together.” “It’s all I ever want: for the shows to feel like a safe place for all of us,” said Ballerini, 29.
