The Penguins stun the hockey world with four signings

The Pittsburgh Penguins stunned the hockey world with four contract signings on Saturday.

First, they gave goalkeeper Tristan Jarry a five-year contract extension, which raised eyebrows among many.

The deal has an average annual value of $5.375 million.

Jarry, 28, worked around the clock for the Penguins last season, averaging a 2.90 goals against and a .909 save percentage.

The Penguins missed the playoffs for the first time since 2006, and Kyle Dubas is the new sheriff in town, serving as president of hockey operations and acting general manager, with Ron Hextall being named to succeed him.

It’s one of Dubas’ biggest decisions since arriving in Pittsburgh.

Shortly after the announcement of Jarry’s contract extension, the Penguins signed goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic in the free-agent market.

Also a defender

Dubas has not been idle: in Ryan Graves he has gotten his hands on an impressive defender.

Graves landed a major six-year, $27 million deal.

The six-foot-1, 220-pound left-hander had 26 points, including eight goals, in 78 games with the New Jersey Devils last season for a plus-34 lead.

Eventually, the Penguins added a support player to their forward roster by landing Lars Eller on a two-year deal averaging $2.45 million per year.
