At least two people were killed and 28 others injured by gunfire at a block party on the night of Saturday, July 1, to Sunday, July 2, in Baltimore on the east coast of the United States, according to police. An 18-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man were killed and three of the injured were in critical condition, the Baltimore Police Chief said at a news conference on Sunday (July 2).
The circumstances of the tragedy remain unclear and authorities have not yet identified a motive or a suspect. For the city’s mayor, it is “a tragedy that should never have happened.” “This highlights once again the impact of the proliferation of illegal firearms on our streets and the need to address it,” Brandon Scott said at a news conference. The shooting happened in popular Brooklyn during an event organized “every year,” he told American broadcaster CNN.
