Renewed funding from the European Commission for the European university alliance Circle U.

Circle U. member University of Vienna is pleased with renewed European Commission funding for the European University Alliance

Vienna (OTS) – The decision to launch “Circle U. 2030”, a new four-year project funded by Erasmus+ 2023 for European universities, is a recognition of Circle U’s achievements, efforts and ambitions. 8 million euros, Circle U. continues to pursue the goal of creating the “university of tomorrow”. The University of Vienna joined the Circle U. in early 2022 and is now looking forward to “new forms of cooperation in education and research and to driving internationalization in these areas”, explains Sebastian Schütze, Rector of the University of Vienna.

The European university alliance Circle U. is a project of nine research-intensive universities across Europe: the University of Vienna, the University of Aarhus, the Humboldt University of Berlin, the Université Paris Cité, the University of Belgrade, the UC Louvain , the University of Oslo, the University of Pisa and King’s College London. Circle U. is one of 44 university alliances that have received funding under the European Lighthouse “European Universities” initiative in recent years. On July 3, 2023, the European Commission announced the approval of the “Circle U. 2030” project, which allows the University of Vienna (together with the University of Pisa) to benefit from European funding and reinforce its commitment to the alliance.

“We are delighted that the European Commission is supporting the Circle U university alliance for another four years with €12.8 million,” said Sebastian Schütze, Rector of the University of Vienna. “After joining Circle U in early 2022, when the pilot project was already halfway through, the University of Vienna is now looking forward to taking the next steps towards an accessible and inclusive European university that will stimulate our academic and student community offers opportunities.”

“The Circle U. 2030 project is based on our common vision and the intense cooperation between our nine institutions and their students and staff. The University of Vienna sees enormous potential for innovation in the alliance, which opens up new forms of cooperation in education and research and will drive internationalization in these areas,” said Schütze.
