The American magazine had sparked controversy earlier this year by not including the performer of My Heart Will Go On in its ranking of the greatest singers, prompting some Quebecoise fans to take their dissatisfaction as far as New York.
The publication also seems to be trying to avoid those outbursts of angry fans in the introduction to this new list released to mark Canada Day.
“Are all the major Canadian musicians there? NO. But the 50 that we like the most are here,” specifies the American magazine.
Rolling Stone also used his introduction to express its “sincere and respectful condolences” to fans of various artists who have been knocked off the charts, while also citing Quebec bands Voivod and Bran Van 3000.
Behind Alanis Morissette
This puts Celine Dion in 10th place, just behind Shania Twain, The Weeknd and Alanis Morissette, who were in 7th through 9th place respectively.
“Few artists are as loved by Canadians as Celine Dion, and with good reason: Her story (the youngest of a working-class family in a small Quebec village who became an international superstar) is every pop star’s dream, and it has the respect and respect The admiration that the whole world has for him is the pride of Canadians.
“His tremendous career is undeniable, with number 1 songs, countless awards and one gigantic moment. Her voice is unmistakable, a roaring tour de force, and she has the stage presence to match. Still, Celine Dion will say her greatest achievement was making her family – and her country – proud. And for that, our love for Celine Dion will last forever.”
It should be noted that Celine Dion is the only singer with a French-speaking repertoire to appear on this list.
