With its disturbing images and borderline content, “American Horror Story” has been terrifying audiences since 2011. From mass murder to abuse and assault, the series has crossed the line on numerous occasions.
From shocking to over the top, these moments have left viewers both disturbed and captivated.

The rubber man rapes Vivien (Murder House)
Having sex with your friend’s mother is another level of perversion, but raping your friend’s mother… In a disturbing twist, Vivien has a sexual encounter with someone wearing a rubber suit, believing it to be her husband.
However, it later turns out that out of the blue Tate decided to terrorize Violet’s mother and get her pregnant.

Lana’s Hanger Abortion (Asylum)
Every time we recall this scene, our stomachs clench. In a shocking and disturbing scene, Sarah Paulson’s Lana Winters tries to get rid of a serial killer’s baby by performing a self-abortion with a clothes hanger.
We later learn that the attempt was unsuccessful, but the graphic nature of the scene and Paulson’s convincing performance haunt us to this day.
The Frat House (Coven)
The horror and disgust are right there in the first episode of AHS Season 3. At a frat party, Emma Roberts’ character, Madison, becomes drugged and the victim of an apparent and explicit gang rape.
It turned out to be one of the most traumatic and realistic depictions of a day-to-day nightmare on the show.
Elsa Mars’ Past (Freak Show)
In Freak Show, Elsa’s character reveals a shocking story as a German dominatrix in Weimar in 1932. She became famous for the humiliation and torture she inflicted on others, including a German soldier who was forced to act like a schnauzer.
Eventually she herself became the subject of a snuff film in which her legs were amputated by sadistic Nazis with a chainsaw.
A Colonial Impaling (Roanoke)
Season 6 features one of the most terrifying murder scenes in television history. Three teenagers decide to investigate the scam and find themselves trapped by the Blood Moon Curse. They end up being captured by colonists, impaled on stakes and burned alive.
With the perspective of their GoPro cameras showing this scene, it becomes even more real, intense and exciting.
