Attacks against Ubisoft: Hackers sentenced to three years in prison

A French gamer was sentenced by the Paris court on Monday to three years in prison with a two-year suspended sentence for launching multiple attacks, particularly against French video game giant Ubisoft, his lawyer told AFP. AFP.

Yanni O., a 22-year-old whose gamer alias is Y4nn0XX, was on trial for three separate cases that took place in France and Canada between 2020 and the summer of 2022.

The penalties in these three cases have been combined into one, which meets the requirements of the prosecution.

His lawyer, Me Armando Frignati, hailed AFP’s “intelligent judgement” and the fact that the court took into account “the apparent change in judgment” of his client, highlighted by psychiatrists’ reports.

During his reprieve, Yanni O. will be “obligated to compensate victims, self-medicate, and work or attend education,” he added.

The young man had admitted at a hearing on June 12 to having briefly joined the fierce attacks that had led to the suspension of the My Class at Home service set up by the Cned as part of new measures to combat the Covid-19 pandemic.

He had also threatened and attacked the company Fuse III, server administrator of the game “Minecraft”.

Finally, in order to have the ban imposed on him lifted for the shooting game “Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege”, he attacked the video game manufacturer Ubisoft, notably with a prank call that had provoked the intervention of the anti-terrorist police at the company’s premises in Montreal (Canada ).

In that case, “my client was released on charges of attempted extortion, fraud and threats against the military,” his attorney said.

The company contacted, Ubisoft, was unable to comment immediately.
