Sherbrooke: A police officer is dragged by a driver who refuses to cooperate

A police officer was dragged nearly 100 feet while trying to intercept the driver of a vehicle in Sherbrooke in the Eastern Townships Sunday night who refused to cooperate.

The incident happened around 11:30 p.m., the Sherbrooke Police Service (SPS) reported in a statement Monday.

Officers were patrolling to locate a domestic violence suspect when they spotted a vehicle matching the description traveling at high speed southbound on North 12th Avenue. The suspicious vehicle was eventually intercepted at the intersection of Rue Terrill and Saint-Michel.

The driver refused to cooperate with the police and put his foot on the accelerator while one of the investigators tried to stop the vehicle.

The officer sustained minor, non-life-threatening injuries and the suspect was subdued with the help of other officers at the scene.

“The 48-year-old man was arrested for assault, threats, intimidation, obstruction and assault on a peace officer. He will appear in court later today. The investigation is ongoing and more charges may be added,” the press release read.

However, the driver is not the suspect wanted for domestic violence and the investigation has been taken over by the criminal investigation department.
