July 3 update: According to Rosie O’Donnell’s Instagram, Madonna is no longer in intensive care and is recovering at home. “She’s recovering at home – she’s generally very strong,” O’Donnell replied to a concerned fan. O’Donnell posted a picture of her and Madonna in A League Of Their Own, which prompted the couple’s mutual fans to to express her concern for the pop star. And while Madonna is expected to make a full recovery, the timeline for that recovery remains open.
The original story follows.
Madonna won’t be partying as quickly as she thought. The pop icon is postponing her upcoming Celebration tour after being hospitalized with a bacterial infection, according to her manager Guy Oseary. He wrote on Instagram that Madonna contracted the disease on June 24 and then spent “several” days in intensive care. The tour was scheduled to kick off in Vancouver less than a month later, on July 15. “Her health is improving, but she is still receiving medical treatment. A full recovery is expected,” Oseary wrote. “At this point we have to pause all commitments, including the tour.” The Celebration tour would be Madonna’s first fully retrospective tour in honor of the 40th anniversary of her career. The artist currently has more than 80 dates scheduled on the world tour, including six nights each in New York, Los Angeles and London. Oseary didn’t reveal how long the tour would be postponed by or when it would start again, but vowed to announce new and rescheduled dates “as soon as we have them.”
