“Mission Master CXT Fire Support” from Rheinmetall is the name of a new autonomous robot that is supposed to independently destroy attack drones. He fires at the drones with a “” that can fire 6,000 rounds per minute.
Rheinmetall is touting the four-wheel all-terrain robot as a cost-effective anti-drone solution. The robot is used to support the advancement of troops and can be controlled by them with a remote control, a kind of tablet with joysticks. For example, soldiers can position the “Mission Master CXT” hidden behind a bush or in a depression. There it observes the surroundings with its sensors and waits for the approach of combat drones, which play an important role in the war in Ukraine, for example, and lead to considerable losses of people and materials.

The Mission Master CXT independently recognizes and identifies air and ground targets and tracks them autonomously. The soldier controlling the Mission Master CXT then uses the fire release button to decide whether he should actually hit the target. As soon as the soldier gives the command to fire, the robot will fire its two automatic cannons. Thanks to night vision devices, this also works in the dark. However, the robot can also fight ground targets and is therefore not limited to shooting down flying drones. Ultimately, this applies to many anti-aircraft systems: the German anti-aircraft vehicle Gepard can not only attack targets in the air, but also on the ground with its double gun.

Autonomous vehicle pack
In the “Wolfpack” variant, a single soldier can also control several of these autonomous vehicles. The “Mission Master CXT Fire Support” accompanies soldiers on their missions in dangerous areas and can also work together with other variants of the “Rheinmetall Mission Master”.

The vehicle has a hybrid propulsion consisting of a diesel engine and an electric motor. The electric motor gets its power from built-in lithium-ion batteries. In pure electric use, virtually silent operation is possible, apart from wheel rolling noise and any hydraulic system and chassis noise.
