Penguins attract three more players

Kyle Dubas is on a mission! After stunning the hockey world with four signings the previous day, the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager signed three more deals Sunday morning.

Forward Radim Zohorna and goalkeeper Magnus Hellberg have signed a one-year contract, while forward Marc Johnstone has signed a two-season deal.

Hellberg becomes the third goaltender in 24 hours to strike a deal with the Penguins. On Saturday, Dubas signed Tristan Jarry on a five-year contract extension, signing free agent Alex Nedeljkovic, as well as defender Ryan Graves and forward Lars Eller.

Hellberg was on three different teams during the 2022–23 season: the Ottawa Senators, the Seattle Kraken, and the Detroit Red Wings. The 32-year-old Swede also played four games for the American League’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

In 23 NHL lifetime games, Hellberg is 16-7-8 with a 3.14 clean sheet average and an .886 save percentage.

For his part, Zohorna will be making a second trip to Pittsburgh. From 2020 to 2022 he spent his time between the Penguins and their American League partner in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. In the NHL, he has 10 points in 25 games.

Last season, the Czech played two games with the Toronto Maple Leafs, eight with the Calgary Flames and 51 American League games with the Calgary Wranglers and Toronto Marlies.

As for Johnstone, he had 22 points in 69 games with the Marlies in 2022-23.
