A 31-year-old man was arrested Monday morning thanks to the intervention of the Service de Police de la Ville de Quebec (SPVQ) canine unit.

At around 9:30 a.m., SPVQ Police officers responded to a fire near a residential building on Edward-Staveley Street.

According to a witness, a man was seen leaving the house where the flames were visible. When firefighters arrived, the fire was out.
The dog handler and several patrol officers were quickly called in.
Canine police spotted a lead and began searching for the suspect.

After a chase, the suspect, a 31-year-old man, was arrested on arson charges.
Investigators and the Forensic Identification Unit are on site and the investigation is ongoing.
