The “Shape of You” singer surprised members of the Boston Music Project Youth Group on Saturday by inviting himself to perform with them at the Tobin Community Center.

“In the morning I said goodbye to Boston and drove off to surprise this group of young musicians. It was super fun,” Ed Sheeran wrote in the caption for a video of his unexpected visit to Instagram. “We’re going to the stadium for the second show, see you later. »

The video shows the British star singing his song “The Hills of Aberfeldy” a cappella before collaborating with the young musicians on a rendition of his track “Eyes Closed”. He also posed for group photos and selfies before signing some instruments. “I played with Ed Sheeran, it was so cool. I had fun. And he gave me a super cool guitar that he signed,” said one young musician, holding up the instrument in question.

On stage, Ed Sheeran said to his young collaborators, “You guys are amazing. Thank you for letting me play with you. »

Speaking directly to the camera, the 32-year-old singer added, “It was so much fun.” I love playing with kids who are new to music, it’s awesome. I’m going to Gillette’s second gig and I’ll meet you there. »

Ed Sheeran performed at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts on Friday and Saturday as part of his Mathematics Tour.
