HOUSTON – Everything is better in Texas, including the food!

The Lone Star State is widely known for its delicious barbecue, and according to The New York Times, Houston is a hub for several restaurants known for their grilled fare.

Of the 20 restaurants the publication named best in Texas, five are in Bayou City. They are:

Blood Bros BBQ

Blood Bros’ The foundation stems from bonds formed between three young teenagers from Alief. In 2014, a year after reuniting, the three men came together to open the restaurant, known for its delicious ribs with a sweet and savory rub and brisket seasoned with spices from Houston’s Chinatown.

Known for its quality food, Brisket & Rice sources fresh ingredients from local farmers’ markets across the city. They prepare cranberry-almond slaw in addition to traditional barbecue side dishes like corn and rich potato salad that pair perfectly with their grilled dishes.

Gatlin’s BBQ

Gatlin’s BBQ is a family run restaurant that opened its doors in 2010. The restaurant has become popular across the country over time and has received numerous awards for its delicious food. According to the owners, “Love is the secret ingredient” in every dish. They also have an extensive breakfast menu with many sandwiches, tacos, and pastry options.

Ray’s Real Pit BBQ Shack

Located in Houston’s historic Third Ward, Ray’s is also family owned. The neighborhood staple is a must when it comes to hickory smoked meats served with homemade side dishes and desserts made fresh daily. Guests can enjoy po’boys, baked potatoes, and fish and shrimp dishes while relaxing in a casual dining room.

Truth BBQ

According to its website, Truth BBQ is based in the Heights neighborhood and believes in “pushing the boundaries of traditional BBQ,” with dishes like Carolina-style whole pork, boudin smoked sausage and pastrami brisket. Everything is made in-house, including the sausage.
