The accident happened at noon at the height of the Y corridor of the Aiguille d’Argentière, where the victim was with five other climbers, four women and one man, in three roped groups of two people each.

The climber fell while trying to help a first couple who had unscrewed about twenty meters, the PGHM said, confirming information from the regional daily Le Dauphiné Libéré.

The two women who had been screwed off – a 46-year-old Swiss woman and a 31-year-old German woman – were hospitalized with minor injuries in Sallanches (Haute-Savoie).

The Chamonix PGHM has launched an investigation to determine the exact circumstances of the accident.
