Quebec woke up Tuesday morning in mourning for intellectual and ardent French language advocate Denise Bombardier, who died early in the morning of complications from medical complications.

Author, essayist, journalist, presenter and columnist for the Journal de Montréal and the Journal de Québec, she has received numerous awards and accolades throughout her long and rich career, which has seen her carry many stints on two continents.

  • In 1993 she was made a Knight of the Legion of Honor in France.
  • In 1995, her show Raison passion, presented on Radio-Canada, won the Gémeaux Award for Best Animation for an Informational Program or Series.
  • In 1995 she won the MetroStar (predecessor to the defunct Gala Artis) for Best Animation for “Great Interviews”.
  • In 2000 she was made a Knight of the National Order of Quebec.
  • In 2009, she received the Officer’s Medal of the Legion of Honor in France
  • In 2010 she received the Prix Reconnaissance – Francophonie 2010 for “her exceptional contribution to the promotion of the French language and Quebec culture on the international stage”.
  • In 2016 she became a member of the Order of Canada
