The Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny director opened up about his decision not to cast the actor in his new film in a new interview with Variety.

In the previous installment in the franchise, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, the Transformers star played Mutt Williams, the adventurer’s long-lost son who has been hidden by his former love, Marion Ravenwood.

“(This movie) is disconnected from all the studios of the past, from the political intrigues surrounding the movies I didn’t do,” James Mangold said of Indiana Jones’s final work. We either wanted to do a movie about the two of them (Indy and Mutt) or we had to find a way not to have (Mutt) with us because he was too big an actor to pretend to be in the previous movie none . did not exist. »

James Mangold decided not to include Mutt in the fifth episode, stating, “I don’t think everything worked that well in the previous film.” I just moved on to something else because that’s what interested me the most. »
