This comes after Mail On Sunday revealed that a senior manager at Loose Women had emailed ITV’s top bosses to express “serious concerns” about the well-being of the young man, who was having an affair with Phillip .
ITV bosses told MPs last month they were not aware of any concerns about the production assistant who worked with Phillip on This Morning during her relationship.
But The Mail on Sunday revealed that sources at the station believe bosses, including entertainment chief Kevin Lygo, were aware of an email raising concerns about the man’s well-being.
The email warned that ITV had a duty of care towards him as a vulnerable employee. Sources close to Mr Lygo say he has “no memory” of it. No formal investigation was launched.
At a hearing in the House of Commons Select Committee questioning Mr Lygo and ITV chief executive Dame Carolyn McCall about the scandal last month, that correspondence was not mentioned.
The email was sent in early 2020 as rumors surfaced on ITV that Mr Schofield had had an on-off relationship with the man – who the network dubs Person X.
By this time he had moved from This Morning to Loose Women after their relationship ended. After a short stay there, he was later paid off by the broadcaster.
The Mail on Sunday is also able to reveal that a number of Loose Women’s star panelists took their concerns to the show’s executives, who felt it was their duty to raise them with managers.
Eamonn Holmes said that he and his wife Ruth Langsford – a Loose Women presenter – knew the man, now in his 20s, was “fragile” and “in bad shape” in the early months of 2020 and that they would have taken care of him.
A source told this newspaper, “The beginning of 2020 was a very difficult time for a number of people working on Loose Women.” They were deeply saddened that Person X’s mental health was deteriorating. You would see him struggle at work, but also off; They saw him in some worrying states.
“His behavior had become more and more erratic, which all makes sense now.” At the time, various people had heard rumors about his relationship and it was thought that the fact that he needed help regarding his mental health would be relayed to superiors should, so that he could get some support.
“At the time, the senior manager decided to put it in writing so his concerns could be documented.”
However, during the select committee hearing, Mr Lygo was speechless when asked by MP John Nicolson if he had ever been approached by management with concerns about presenters, editors or the culture at This Morning.
Mr Lygo replied: “Honestly, I don’t believe any that I can remember,” before Mr Nicolson revealed a copy of an email purported to show concerns about Mr Schofield’s behavior had been raised in 2021 .
Outdoors: Another segment of the clip showed her in nature, walking in a meadow in a pretty white sundress
Products: She was later spotted outdoors putting the finishing touches on her photo shoot for the wellness brand
Casual: In another look for another shoot, she showed off her sense of style in a white blouse and jeans
Chic: In another photoshoot, she slipped into a sleek beige suit, which she paired with brown shoes
The correspondence – said to have been sent to an ITV staffer by someone from Mr Lygo’s team – said that at a meeting on October 4, 2021, the staffer “raised concerns about the conduct of Phillip Schofield and another colleague who was at This Morning works.” ‘.
The email continued: “I cannot share all the details but cannot find any evidence to suggest that Kevin Lygo has failed to act on the allegations you have made against him.”
Meanwhile, sources at ITV say the organisation’s top leadership is now privately admitting that solicitor Jane Mulcahy KC, who is leading the outside investigation into the Schofield scandal and toxic work culture at This Morning, may find evidence of incidents the company had vehemently denied.
An ITV spokesman said: “We have no record of the emails described,” adding that the network had been following the runner on an ongoing basis.
