At the end of March we learned that Christian Bégin had to undergo emergency surgery under unclear circumstances. For weeks, the host has remained silent about his situation and has not revealed any information about the reasons for his long break from work. On April 12, the production of the show Y’a du monde à mass revealed that the artist had “a major health problem” and that he would be temporarily replaced at the helm of his popular show by André Robitaille. “Christian will come back to us in great form at the end of the season,” he said.
It was only on June 7, after several weeks of silence, that Christian Bégin lifted the veil on his Facebook page about the mishap that led him to a difficult situation and a long convalescence. “On March 29, I underwent major brain surgery after accidentally undergoing an exam triggered by recurring headaches. The excellent neurosurgery team at CHUM, led by the larger-than-life Dr. Michel W. Bojanowski removed a benign but worrisome tumor. His presence required quick action and a minimum two-month sabbatical from work. Everything went fine. […] I am out of danger and getting back on the saddle wisely and safely,” he wrote.

A GOOD YEAR DESPITE THE TESTS
Remember that the year 2023 promised to be bountiful for Christian Bégin, both actor and presenter. After starring in the comedy Les guys on Radio-Canada and in Indéfendable on TVA, the actor starred in the new series The Candidate last winter, which will premiere on Tou.tv Extra. As for animation, he said that in January he was fortunate to take charge of the programs Y’a du monde à mass, La grande mass and Curieux Bégin, all three of which were broadcast on Télé-Québec. Luck that he was recently able to renew after a break of several weeks. “It is with unspeakable joy that I returned to my chair at Y’a du monde à messe on May 31st to watch the final six episodes of our seventh season, in addition to filming our Christmas special in November. I would like to warmly thank André Robitaille for so generously agreeing to stand in for me during my absence. A challenge that he accepted with grace, elegance and brilliance,” emphasized Christian Bégin. In addition, the connoisseur presenter recently resumed filming “Curieux Bégin” for a 16th season on Télé-Québec, which will exceptionally include 25 programs, to the delight of viewers.

ONE STOP TOUR
Only the tour of his show “The 8 Deadly Sins” is no longer on his agenda. “It is with reluctance that I announce the cancellation of the remainder of my tour. A difficult decision for me, but determined by the demands of a show alone on stage. Thank you to everyone who believed in me and bought tickets to show their support. […] I’m fine, my head is full of projects and I’m very excited to find my way back to work and especially the people who make it so necessary, stimulating and meaningful. Once again. More than ever.”
Finally, the moderator thanks his girlfriend, whose identity he prefers to keep secret, for supporting him in this difficult ordeal. “My lover, who changes EVERYTHING, often tells me: ‘You are loved, my friend!’ And the air of nothingness, it helps immensely, it gives breath, momentum, meaning…” he concludes. Fortunately, Christian Bégin must have been more scared than harmed in this whole adventure. We wish him an excellent return to work!
