“Greek Tragedy”: Two recent graduates die on a school trip

On a school trip to Greece at the end of the year an accident occurred which resulted in not one but two separate accidents within hours of each other killing two freshly graduated 18 year old Irish men.

“We are heartbroken […] These two amazing young men had lives ahead of them. “Brilliant, athletic, academic… who has been impatiently awaiting this journey for months,” lamented Tim Kelleher, principal of Saint Michael’s College in Dublin, Ireland, according to The Guardian on Monday.

On Saturday night, following a drunken night out on the island of Íos in Greece during a school field trip involving 69 teenagers, Andrew O’Donnell’s classmates began to worry after the young man failed to return to his room, prompting a police search.

His body was reportedly found dead early Sunday morning, after the young man apparently fell on his way home.

But when he heard the news, his friend Max Wall, also 18, would have lost his heart. The latter, who had a “history of heart problems,” was found near his room, Brigadier Thanos Loukas, commanding officer, told British media.

“Wall broke down when she found out what had happened. Everyone says what is true: the incident sounds like an ancient Greek tragedy. “The whole island is in shock,” a police officer on the island reportedly told The Guardian.

An investigation is to try to determine the exact cause of death of the two young men.
