The Cybersecurity Agency confirmed this Wednesday that the latest leak released on Tuesday by criminal group RansomHouse matches the remaining unreleased information stolen from Clínic Hospital. The publication on the dark web, the Internet space inaccessible with traditional browsers, corresponds to the 4.5 terabytes stolen on March 5th. Four months after the cyber attack, the hospital still does not estimate the possible extent of the affected population. “There are thousands,” say the spokesman for the center. A specification is difficult due to the large amount of data.

The released data, the clinic confirms, “includes patient identification and health data related to nursing treatments and clinical research; personal data of employees and data of cooperating companies and suppliers”. The center insists the Mossos “will pursue anyone who may, intentionally or unintentionally, access the data.”

The third installment of RansonHouse concludes four months of leaks, digital manhunts and failed ransom demands. The cybercriminals demanded around 4.2 million euros to prevent the publication, but the Generalitat refused to pay. On March 30th there was a first leak and a few days later the Mossos deleted the web space where the files were stored, although they were later still available. On April 17th there was a second leak and on Tuesday July 4th the third and last. Meanwhile, the data protection authority assured that they are examining whether the hospital should be punished for the mega leak.

The clinic first notified those affected by the first leak, as stipulated in the regulations, and nearly a thousand notifications were sent out, according to the center. In any case, these did not correspond to the total number of people involved. With the second leak, and given the volume of data, the clinic, in accordance with the data protection regulator, refrained from personalized notifications.

Neither the Authority nor the Ombudsman have received any complaints from users affected by the situation. In its statement, the clinic thanked for the support it had received from patients, professionals, administrations, institutions and companies over the past few months and once again apologized to those affected for any inconvenience caused.
