The white powder found Sunday in a White House work area that led to the evacuation of the presidential residence has been identified as cocaine by emergency services.
“We have a yellow bar that indicates cocaine hydrochloride,” the Washington Post said Monday in a message from a firefighter on the DC Department of Hazardous Materials team.
According to Portal, the president’s residence was evacuated Sunday night after a small amount of white powder was discovered in the West Wing work area of the White House, where hundreds of people gather daily.
According to Secret Service spokesman Anthony Guglielmi, President Joe Biden was not at the scene at the time of the incident. He confirmed that the gunpowder was being thoroughly investigated but posed no danger.
It didn’t say what condition the powder was found in, although authorities said it was only a small quantity.
However, according to the Washington Post, an investigation was launched to determine the “cause and manner” by which the substance got to the White House.
