Zé Celso died on Thursday morning (July 6, 2023) at the age of 86. He has been in hospital since Tuesday (July 3) after a fire broke out at his home in Paraíso, south of São Paulo.
Lula said that the playwright is one of the biggest names in Brazilian theater and that he has “always defended democracy and creativity, often faced censorship.” Alckmin, on the other hand, stated that he wrote a “rich personal history and for Brazil”.
