Large fine for taking a selfie in front of an unmarked police car

A young Belgian faced quite a mishap when he was fined for taking a picture of himself in front of an unmarked, radar-equipped police vehicle.

Young man named Randy riding his bike through the streets of Sint-Niklaas in East Flanders took a selfie with the car and his device in the background.

The cyclist posted the snap as a Facebook benefit before sharing it with the Politiecontrole Waasland group to warn drivers of speed cameras.

A few days later, according to local media, he was served with a fine of 184 euros, more than $265, after being identified by the police officer on duty that day.

The young man was not fined for his disregard for the radar, but for violating the Highway Code, which specifically prohibits the use of his phone while riding a bicycle.

“We can’t even prove that I was driving when I took the photo,” said the young man of the daily newspaper “HLN”, quoted by 7Sur7.
