“Yo soy Betty, la fea”, one of the most popular Colombian telenovelas in television history, will be re-broadcast next year with a new story.

Amazon Prime Video announced that the series, co-produced with Estudios RCN de Colombia, will premiere on its direct-to-stream service in more than 240 countries and territories around the world.

“This bet is the evolution of the most successful telenovela in Latin America for distribution and a digital market,” said Alexander Marín, RCN’s vice president of sales, in a statement.

Beatriz Pinzón Solano was a brilliant economist with a master’s degree in finance who had one “fault”: she was ugly.

When she starts working at the company Emoda as an assistant to the manager Armando Mendoza, she not only falls in love with him, but also tries to become a successful and desirable woman in order to win his love.

That was the plot of the soap opera that premiered in 1999.
