God of War is out on Amazon Prime Video

A playable adaptation of the God of War franchise for PlayStation is heading to TV.

According to Deadline, Amazon Prime Video is in talks for a new series based on popular adventure games. The project is led by Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, creators and executive producers of the sci-fi series The Expanse, and Rafe Judkins, executive producer and showrunner of the Prime Video epic fantasy The Wheel of Time, as well as Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions. . Sony will likely co-execute with Amazon Studios.

God of War debuted in 2005 as a hack-and-slash game for the PlayStation 2. The franchise consists of ten playable games across multiple platforms, with another one in development, God of War Ragnarok. Players follow the story of a former Spartan warrior named Kratos who must avenge his loved ones after they are killed by Ares, the Greek god of war. There are two eras in the franchise, with the first focusing on Greek mythology and the second pitting Kratos against the world of Norse mythology with his son Atreus by his side.

The news comes right after Peacock announced that it has acquired a live adaptation of the popular vehicular combat game Twisted Metal, also from Sony and PlayStation. God of War marks the third show in development by Sony Pictures TV and PlayStation Productions, the first being the TV show The Last of Us, a series adaptation of the critically acclaimed action game Naughty Dog developed by Uncharted. We also know about the film “Ghost of Tsushima”, which is working on the director of “John Wick” Chad Stahelski.
